Starch–g-polyvinyl acetate copolymer Part 2: Utilization of starch-g-polyvinyl acetate copolymer in textile printing

(6/7/2010 18:00)

In this study the starch-g-polyvinyl acetate copolymer with different acetyl contents were used as thickening agents for pigment and reactive printing. Pigment printing was applied on wool, cotton, nylon, polyester and cotton/polyester blended fabrics while the reactive printing was done on wool and cotton fabrics. Thickener in consideration was used alone and along with the widely used commercial thickeners. The studied thickening agents were rheologically characterized and they showed a pseudoplastic bahaviour. Printing performances of the examined thickeners were studied in terms of colour strength expressed as K/S, fastness properties and handle of the produced prints. The results proved that the acetyl content of the starch copolymer and its proportions affect the colour strength with excellent fastness properties for all printed substrates.
