Data Base Management in Apparel Industry

(6/7/2010 18:00)

This paper describes the database management system(DBMS) in apparel industry.
It is very difficult to optimize the tailoring process, because the fabrics, the fused materials and sewing threads have their unique physical properties, as well as the tailoring process is complicated. There have been numerous theoretical and experimental studies to find out the optimum tailoring conditions to meet the end-use properties of garments. But they are limited in actual tailoring process, because the fabrics are diversified by the end-uses and the constituent fibers or yarns are newly developed. This situation occurs similarly in the manufacture of the knitted sweater. In this case, more precise informations of the yarns are required.
Recently, various computer technologies and software techniques are developed and they are used in many industrial areas. DBMS seems to give good applications in the apparel industry, because apparel industry has many controllable variables to improve the quality of garments and some variables cannot be expressed numerically. However, DBMS needs numerous data, and the reasonable classification and definition of them. This paper surveys DBMS related to them in apparel industry.
