Improvement of the Functional Performance of Polyethylene ropes

(6/7/2010 18:00)

It was found, from a field study, that the maximum amount of ropes, which is produced in Egypt, is the polyethylene ropes. This is due to the satisfactory properties and economics of these ropes. However these ropes in general, are suffering from the lack of easiness to bend during its usage. Some factors, which are expected to affect properties polyethylene ropes, in particular the bending resistance, were chosen to study. These parameters were divided into two groups. The first group is concerned with the manufacturing parameters of the rope processing. These parameters are length of lay in the strand, the distribution of the fibers between the core and sheath in the strand, twist in the primary strand and the filament denier. The second group is concerned with some chemical additives during filament production. A simple design of experiment based on factor at a time was carried out. Results are plotted and discussed.
