Syria’s state-owned textile and apparel manufacturer, General Company for Modern Industries, produced goods worth $96.7 million last year, the firm said without providing comparative figures.

The company said it made 3,600 tonnes of ready-made garments in 2001 and the value of ready-made apparel in its distribution centres fell almost 50 per cent to $6.5m from $11.7m in 2000.
