“According to the figures released by Federal Bureau of Statistics on
Tuesday, the country exported textile commodities worth $13.805 billion
in July-June period of the 2010-11 fiscal year against $10.221 billion
in the same period of fiscal year 2009-10. ” “..

The handsome increase in textile exports in last financial year was due
to the rising demand for low value-added products and cotton prices in
the international market. The textile’s exports helped the country to
achieve record level of exports worth $ 24.827 billion during the
previous financial year. ” “..

According to the figures, the product-wise details showed that raw
cotton exports went up by 83.95 per cent, cotton yarn, 52.50 per cent,
cotton cloth, 42.30 per cent, cotton carded, 50.01 per cent, yarn, 48.56
per cent, knitwear, 30.93 per cent, bed wear, 19.56 per cent, towels,
14.45 per cent, readymade garments, 39.73 per cent, art silk and
synthetic textile, 50.42 per cent, made up articles 16.64 per cent and
other textile materials exports increased by 36.37 per cent in July-June
period of 2010-11 against July-June period of 2009-10. ” “..

However, only tents, canvas and tarpaulin in textile sector showed
negative growth of 20.74 per cent in the period under review. ” “..

Meanwhile, the figures revealed that the country’s food exports also
registered an increase of 36.46 per cent in July-June period of 2010-11.
The break-up of food group exports revealed that rice exports went down
by 1.27 per cent, fish exports increased by 30.59 per cent, fruits
20.08 per cent, vegetables 116.71 per cent, tobacco 87.91 per cent,
spices 22.81 per cent, oil seeds export 2.03 per cent, meat 54.86 per
cent and all other food items exports enhanced by 89.19 per cent in the
period under review. ” “..

In food group, sugar’s exports decreased by 100 per cent during the
previous fiscal year. Meanwhile, other manufactures group also enhanced
by 6.15 per cent. In this group, exports of carpets, rugs and mats
decreased by 3.30 per cent, sports goods exports increased by 8.34 per
cent, leather exports went up by 35.24 per cent during the previous
financial year 2010-2011 as compared to the year 2009-10. ”
