Denim and jeans producer Nien Hsing Textile Co Ltd on Monday posted an 11.2 per cent climb in pre-tax profit for the first seven months this year to NT$1.39 billion from NT$1.25bn in the year-ago period.

The company, which said its July profit fell 11.6 per cent to NT$175m, also announced plans to expand its jeans operations in Lesotho, in South Africa, in the next few months.

It has already already established a denim weaving factory in Lesotho and said an abundance of cheap labour made it the ideal location for it to expand its operations.

Nien Hsing said the new plant will boost its total domestic and overseas production capacity to 1.9 million yards of denim, 280,000 dozens of jean pants and 70,000 dozens of casual garments per year.
