“According to the economic letter of the Technical Textiles Center
(CETTEX) for the month of May 2011, exports of the sector posted an
increase in value of 17.68% in April 2011 for a total of 495 million
dinars, while imports grew by 25.03% in value, or 389 million dinars,
and 8.35% by volume.

The value of textile and clothing industry exports has posted growth
since February 2011, states the letter, following the recovery recorded
after delivery delays accumulated during the month of January 2011. . .

The coverage of imports by exports reached 127.4% in April, against
135.3% during the same month in 2010. This decrease is due to the growth
of the differential between exports and imports.

The publication reports that the major customers of Tunisia during the
period (January-April 2011) are the United Kingdom ( 32.7%), Germany
( 23.6%), the Netherlands ( 21.9), Spain ( 18.7%), Belgium ( 8.0%),
Italy ( 5.1%) and France ( 2.7%). . .

Major suppliers of Tunisia during the same period are Turkey (43.4%),
Portugal ( 20.6%), Germany ( 17.9), China ( 13.4%) and Italy ( 3.4%).

The same publication shows that Germany (3rd customer and fourth
supplier of Tunisia) is also a privileged partner of Tunisia in textile
and clothing in terms of number of companies operating in the sector (84
units), providing 13,666 jobs and producing an exports turnover
estimated at 507 MTD”
