In light of the media row, Jordanian Labor Minister Bassam al-Salem was forced
to comment on the matter. The minister clarified that the Israeli investor,
nicknamed “Sergio” by the Jordanian press, was believed to have fled Jordan due
to financial hardships.Al-Salem stressed that his office had decided to appeal to the relevant
authorities in order to put its hands on the company’s bank guarantees and
ensure that the employees are paid.

” Fathallah al-Amrani, chairman of Jordan’s textile and clothing workers’
union, expressed his surprise over the incident, claiming that the Israeli
businessman’s factory was considered successful and was even included in the
Jordanian Labor Ministry’s “golden list”. .
