Myanmar’s production of cotton yarn slumped by more than a third in the first half of 2002, figures from the state-run Myanma Textile Industries (MTI) revealed on Monday.
According to MTI data, the country’s cotton yarn output plunged to 1,937 tons while cotton fabric production slipped 24.4 per cent year-on-year to 8.53 million metres.
Year-ago first half figures were not provided although in 2001, Myanmar – formerly known as Burma – produced 5,552 tons of cotton yarn and 21 million meters of cotton fabric.
