Supermarket group Asda on Tuesday announced the continued success of its George clothing range will create an extra 2,000 jobs this year.

The company, whose US parent Wal-Mart will release its latest financial results later today, said the jobs will be split equally between full-time and temporary roles and will be across its 228 stores that sell the apparel.

It added a new clothing distribution centre near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire will create an extra 150 jobs when it opens next month and a further 150 jobs in 2003.
