“According to ITIS data, in the first quarter, Taiwan’s total textile production value stood at NT$76.57 billion, a 35 percent decline from the same period last year…Manufacturers of synthetic fibers saw an even bigger decline of 52 percent year-over-year, ITIS said…As for trade of textiles, in the first quarter exports reached US$1.982 billion, a 25 percent decline year-over-year, while imports were US$499 million, a decline of 27 percent. This translated into a surplus of US$1.483 billion, a 25 percent decline from US$2 billion in Q1 2008, ITIS said..
