In short
- Egypt's industry runs from spinning to garments, so much of your yarn, fabric and trims can be sourced locally; the Egytex Directory lists suppliers by product and region.
- Before you export, register in the Exporters Register at GOEIC; the export card is valid for five years.
- Duty-free access depends on rules of origin — the EU's Pan-Euro-Med rules, or the QIZ content rules for the US.
What this stage involves
Local suppliers. Map your bill of materials — yarn, fabric, trims, packaging, dyeing and finishing — and look for Egyptian suppliers in the Egytex Directory. Local inputs shorten lead times and count towards the origin and content rules below.
Certifications and audits. Most international buyers ask for social-compliance audits and product certifications — for example WRAP, amfori BSCI, OEKO-TEX or GOTS, depending on the buyer and product. Ask your main buyers for their list before you start, and build the requirements into your factory systems from day one. The Egytex Directory shows which certifications listed companies hold.
Exporters Register. Anyone exporting from Egypt must be entered in the Exporters Register at the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) before exporting. You will need your commercial register (issued within the last three months), tax card and articles of association. The export card is valid for five years, with a 90-day grace period to renew. Exporting without registration can lead to customs clearance being suspended. Free-zone companies should confirm with GAFI and GOEIC whether the same registration applies to them.
Rules of origin. Duty-free entry depends on proving origin. For the EU, goods must meet the Pan-Euro-Med rules of origin; under the Agadir Agreement, inputs from Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia can be combined with Egyptian inputs when proving origin for the EU. Keep supplier invoices and production records ready.
QIZ registration. If you will export to the US duty-free, your factory must be in a Qualifying Industrial Zone and registered with the QIZ Unit, and your products must meet the content rule: 35% of the value, of which 11.7% Egyptian and 10.5% Israeli input (under review since February 2026).
