President of the Garment and Textile Association, Le Quoc An, expressed his view that the sector is capable of meeting this goal in spite of the obstacles imposed on it by a US export monitoring mechanism. He pointed to the country housing new garment and textile projects that are ready to kick off with the aid of investors from China, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea. Local companies meanwhile signed large export contracts. The Viet Tien Garment Company, for example, signed a US $176 million contract for export in the first half of this year, while the Thanh Cong Garment Joint Stock Company inked a contract to ship high-grade garments to US-based retail giant Wal-mart.
