Taiwan’s textile exports fell by 8.2 per cent in October to US$1.054 billion compared to the same month last year according to the latest customs statistics.
The figures, which were released by the Taiwan Textile Federation, show October’s export value grew by 1.05 per cent from the US$1.043 billion posted in September.
Breaking down the figures, yarn and fabric exports fell 7.5 per cent to US$742 million from October 2001; garments decreased 17.8 per cent to US$129 million; and other textile products slipped 2.9 per cent to US$183 million.
The latest statistics bring the cumulative export value all textile products between January and October 2002 to US$10.17 billion, a drop of 5.6 per cent on the same 10 months of last year. Of this, the value of garment exports fell 15.1 per cent from the US$1.52 billion posted in the January-October period of 2001; and yarns and fabric decreased 5.4 per cent to US$7.258 billion.
